The 2026 theme internationally
The theme for International Women's Rights Day 2026 is: "Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL women and girls".
Equitable justice is the central theme of the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), which is held from 9 to 19 March 2026 in New York and brings together representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
The priority theme for the 70th session is: "Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, policies, and practices, and addressing structural barriers".
"International Women’s Day 2026 comes at a defining moment: Women and girls have never been closer to equality, and never closer to losing it. Legal protection against domestic violence has expanded in many countries." (UN Women)
On the occasion of the 70th annual session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), Monaco signed a partnership agreement with UN Women for the period 2026–2029, which will support initiatives using sport as a vehicle for achieving equality. Monaco will make gender equality a priority theme during its Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe from 15 May to 10 November 2026 (Princely Government, Press release of 26 March 2026).
