Participation in the DPO Forum Monaco 2026

Our associates Laurie BOUCHER and Anne ROBERT took part in the DPO Forum Monaco 2026, which brought together professionals in the fields of personal data protection (Data Protection Officers (DPOs) and specialist lawyers), artificial intelligence, and information systems security (CISOs) from Monaco and the neighbouring region.

The programme included:

• Opening keynote speech - Presentation of Law No. 1.565 of 3 December 2024 on the protection of personal data by the Monaco Data Protection Authority (APDP): new obligations for data controllers (maintaining a record of processing activities, appointing a Data Protection Officer (DPO) where applicable, reporting data breaches, etc.); new rights for data subjects to retain control over their personal data; and enhanced powers for the APDP.
• Conference 1 - "The keys to AI governance lie in the GDPR!": how the principles of data protection legislation can help to better regulate the development of responsible, ethical and human-centred artificial intelligence.
• Round Table 1 - "The protection of personal data in the Principality of Monaco: legal framework and practical application": alongside the framework applicable in the European Union (GDPR), a presentation of the practical implications of the new legal and regulatory framework for Monegasque businesses and their Data Protection Officers (DPOs).
• Round Table 2 - "The Development and Management of AI: Can Digital Trust Drive Innovation?": the approach to digital trust involves deploying the necessary resources to achieve a sufficient level of security, reliability and compliance, and being able to demonstrate this, in accordance with the principle of accountability.
• Conference 3 - "Privacy by Design: integrating data protection from the outset of project design": a presentation of the seven principles of Privacy by Design, a case study of a penalty imposed by the French data protection authority (CNIL), and methodological considerations.
• Conference 4 - "Regulating AI systems in business: governance as an essential prerequisite for regulatory compliance": in light of the growing number of European Union regulatory obligations governing artificial intelligence (AI Act, GDPR, NIS 2).
• Roundtable 3 - "How do we move from cybersecurity and regulatory requirements to genuine organisational resilience?": how to transform challenges and constraints (evolving threats, a proliferation of regulatory requirements: GDPR, NIS 2, DORA, OIV/SIIV), cyber risk governance, reliance on third parties and the ability to deal with incidents) into a coherent strategy for cybersecurity, risk management and resilience.
